MARDI HIMAL TREK

Mardi Himal is a challenging and beautiful 6 days trek in the Annapurna region of Nepal. It is located at the east of the Annapurna Base Camp offering majestic views of the Himalayan Mountain range. The trail is less popular compared to the famous Annapurna Circuit trek or Everest Base Camp trek. Mardi Himal Base Camp, Australian Camp, Siding village, and Lwang are the highlights of this trek. Our journey starts with a scenic drive from Pokhara to Kande which will be a one-hour ride. Now, our trek starts from Kande to Australian Camp and then slightly downhill to Deurali. The trek continues to the Low Camp and High Camp through the jungle and forest camp. From High Camp, we will have 4 to 5 hours of trek to Mardi Base Camp and then return to Middle camp. Finally, our trail descends to Siding village and drives back to Pokhara.

DETAIL ITINERARY

Day 1: Drive to Kande and trek to Deurali (2200m)

After having a delicious breakfast we will have a scenic drive towards Kande. It will be a one-hour-long drive passing through various forests, rivers, and villages. Now it will be a 1.5-hour hike until the Australian Camp. After 3-4 hours of trekking, you will reach Deurali from Australian Camp. Overnight at Deurali.

Day 2: Trek to Low Camp (2900m)

Today our journey leads us through the off-beaten trail to Mardi Base Camp leaving the main Annapurna Sanctuary trail. The trail continues along the dense forest of oak, maple, hemlock, and rhododendron. After four hours of trekking, we will stop for lunch in Forest Camp then we continue our trek to Low Camp. As we ascend higher the change in vegetation can be seen. Finally, Low camp welcomes you with a delicious dinner for the night.

Day 3: Trek to High Camp (3585m)

Today our trail directly takes us to the High Camp. The trail offers marvelous views of Mardi Himal, Annapurna South, Hiuchuli, Gangapurna, and Machhapuchhre. After a few hours of walking our trail breaks above the tree line and takes us to the Middle Camp. Now the trail continues with some isolated rhododendron bushes along the Mardi Himal ridge. Finally, overnight at a lodge in High Camp.

Day 4: Hike to Mardi Himal Base Camp (4500m), back to Middle Camp (3200m)

After having an early morning breakfast our trail continues towards Mardi Himal Base Camp. The trail towards Base Camp is well-established that passes through a couple of steeper sections. Along the way look out for the Danphe Pheasant and yak. Now after reaching Base Camp at the elevation of 4500m encounter the marvelous beauty of Annapurna Sanctuary, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). After spending a few hours we now come back to High Camp for Lunch and then retrace to Middle Camp. Overnight at Middle Camp.

Day 5: Trek to Siding Village (1750m)

Today we will descend to Siding village through a different route to complete a circuit. It will be a 5-6 hours long journey with stunning mountain beauty. Siding village is far away from the busy modern world, so it is a traditional Nepalese village. The village will give trekkers a wonderful cultural experience. Overnight at Siding Village.

Day 6: Trek to Lumre and drive back to Pokhara

Today we will descend to Lumre crossing villages of Ghaley and Kalimati. Kalimati is primarily a Brahmin village where the settlement of Gurung and Ghaley can be found. After reaching Lumre you will have a scenic drive back to Pokhara. Overnight at Pokhara.
