Upper mustang trek
Passing all the important villages of the mustang region you will reach the Jomsom. It reveals Nepal’s spectacular diversity at its finest. It also follows the world’s deepest gorge on the way up. Some major attractions of the Jomsom Muktinath trek include typical Mustang villages, hundreds of years old monastery, caves, local tribes, and scenic landscapes. Tatopani is the route for the Jomsom Muktinath trekking. Tatopani is also popular for its natural hot water spring. There is a strong belief to cure many skin allergies due to the minerals present in it. Another route is Marpha; the village of the apple capital in the nation, with Marpha brandy and jams produced from local fruits. Locally made apple wine is most preferable for the visitor. So, the village is a common overnight halt on the Annapurna Circuit, less crowded and touristy.
Kagbeni is a unique famous village of Baarah Gaun (lit. twelve villages) in upper mustang right at the feet of Muktinath Valley by the Kali Gandaki River. And also, it is called as bridges to connect the gap between Lower and Upper Mustang. It is a fascinating medieval village with closely packed mud-brick houses, dark alleys, and imposing Chhortens. The village stands in a little green oasis dominated by its red monastery. Eye-catching views of the impressive huge Chhortens, traditional flat mud roofed houses with prayer flags on the roof, old women weaving, and gossiping in their traditional costumes are some of the other main attractions in the town.
Jomsom is at the altitude of 2713m which is the main point to the Muktinath (3,710 m). Jomsom is a well-equipped town in the Lower Mustang region and often referred to as the Gateway to Upper Mustang. Jomsom sits on the bank of Kali Gandaki river which is also a gorge that separates major peaks, Dhaulagiri (8,167m) on the west and Annapurna (8,091) on the east. The final point of the Jomsom trek is Muktinath. There is no chance that who goes to Jomsom couldn’t want to go Muktinath. Muktinath is the famous pilgrimages site for both Buddhists and Hindus. To Hindus, Muktinath is a sacred place of salvation and they believe that bathing in 108 waterspouts here guarantees salvation after death. The Hindu god, Brahma, is said to have lit the eternal flames that burn at Muktinath. Here we can find the fossilized ammonites, known as Shalikgram, which are found all along the upper reaches of the Kaligandaki. To the Buddhists, Muktinath is a place where the great sage Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) who brought Buddhism to Tibet and came to meditate.
